Glashutte Original Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized Edition Watch

Over 170 years ago in Glasheutte, watchmakers settled in, bringing their passion and expertise to develop the art and the Glashutte Original Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized Edition Watch is just one of the results of that creativity. This design features quite a display of hand-engraving to what would be considered an otherwise conservative timepiece. The showcasing of the updated Calibre 49-18 movement allows one to see the engineering first hand and also embraces the artwork side of the design. From the filigree artwork on the dial that is protected by a non-reflective sapphire crystal, to the similar crystal case back, the wearer can visibly enjoy the hand-wound mechanism.

While this design was done originally in rose gold in 2012, it was a limited edition version and only 100 pieces were made. This latest release will be a regular production timepiece for the brand and allows everyone to have their opportunity to own such a masterpiece. This timepiece is being designed in a 18k white gold case, discreet but just as discerning. The case is exquisitely mirror polished, reflecting in every glimpse of light. The dimensions are 42mm in diameter and 11.2mm in height, which might seem to be small in appearance but it wears large and yet is thin and curved perfectly for comfort and noticiability.

The double-G logo of Glashutte is signed on the crown of the Original Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized Edition watch and the dial, identical to the rose gold model. Keeping to the unique nature of the brand, the dial unlike other similar designs is intact, it has been crafted to reveal the amazing movement below. The expert layout of this timepiece have kept intact the moon phase display, power reserve indicator, subsidiary seconds and chapter ring, while also keeping readable hour markers with Roman numerals. The hour and minute hands are created in flamed blue, as are the hands for the power reserve indicator and subsidiary seconds. Legibility is remarkable considering many skeletonized designs do not fair so well.

The Calibre 49-13 movement is intricate in the decorations and all hand embellished. As a tradition of German watchmaking you can flip the timepiece over and make out what is left of the three-quarters plate. Each of the remaining bridges have been hand beveled and elegantly display the hand-engraving that is so delicate and detailed you can never appreciate the level of intricacy that is involved. The movement jewels are sitting in screwed gold chatons and the winding wheels crafted with double sunburst decoration. The movement beats at 4Hz and you can be mesmerized by the large balance wheel that swings quite fast. The swan-neck adjustment mechanism as well as the balance cock are engraved to the brand tradition. With a single mainspring the 40 hour power reserve is impressive and again quite spectacular. Owning the Glashutte Original Senator Moon Phase Skeletonized Edition Watch has been made possible with this latest release and allows you enjoy this small piece of heaven.
