IWC History - Training their Own Watchmakers
The International Watch Company (IWC) is located in Switzerland; however it actually started with an American engineer, Florentine Jones that was working at a watch company in Boston. Jones had the idea to combine the Swiss watch making preciseness with modern American engineering.
The factory was the first and only to be located in eastern Switzerland. All of the other watch workshops and factories were located in the western part of the country.
IWC was the first brand name to produce a digital watch and in 1935 they manufactured a watch especially for pilots, Mark IX. They also introduced the Ingenieur in their watch collection in 1955 which became a huge success. The Da Vinci was added to the IWC watch collection in 1985 with a perpetual calendar showing four digits for the year display. Other popular watches they have produced more recently are the 5000 Calibre and the Aquatimer (a diver´s watch).
This watch company has continued to have high quality craftsmanship due to their internal programs. IWC trains all of their young watchmakers to ensure the future of the company and the watch collections. In addition, they also manufacture their own watch cases setting them apart from other top notch watchmakers.
