IWC Ingenieur Collection - Withstanding the Test of Time
IWC, International Watch Company, has proven its place in history with the long
lasting and beautifully functioning chronographic and automatic watches. In the
mid 1800's Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American watch maker decided that it was
time to take watches to the next level. This was not only to provide people with
a functional time peace, but more so with a watch that is intricately designed and
will last for generation after generation. With building its reputation, IWC determined
in 1955 that they needed to be a step above the rest. This is how the IWC Ingenieur
Collection came to be.

Of course, there were already automatic watches, created by IWC in 1951, yet there
was more to be done. In 1955, IWC created the first watch in the Ingenieur Collection
that was an automatic watch with was housed in a case that has soft iron so that
magnetic fields would not ruin the complexity of the automatic movement. This Ingenieur
watch had bidirectional automatic movement that was the first of its kind and it
now a part of watch making standards. Once IWC had the idea for the first Ingenieur
watch, the IWC Ingenieur Collection took off. This watch collection has become
greatly sought after by sports enthusiasts. Being able to withstand the heat of
the desert, the cold of the tundra and the speeds of yacht racing, many find IWC
watches such as this a necessity in their day to day life.
Upon creating the IWC Ingenieur Collection, the International Watch Company
determined that there needs to be some characteristics that are consistent in all
watches of this collection. Being shock absorbent with rubber buffers is essential
for those boating and on yachts. Also, the unusual shape designed in the 1970s remains
the same today. With the lightning bolt in the logo, five bores in the bezel and
special design on the dial, collectors know an Ingenieur Collection watch when they
see one.
With rose gold and platinum versions unveiled in 2008, this IWC Ingenieur
Collection still has the same magnificence and sophistication that it all started
with in 1955. Now with shock resistance, vibration and impact resistance as well
as magnetism resistance, the new Big Ingenieur is on the scene and will provide
the wearer with a power reserve of seven days and mechanical engineering that has
withstood the test of time. The Ingenieur watches can truly complete any watch collection.
