History of Hublot - Black Rubber Bands Introduced to the World

In 1980 Carlo Crocco started his own watch making company, MDM Geneva. He introduced the Hublot watch collections that same year. These watches were unlike what anyone had designed previously since they had black rubber bands. Crocco was not unfamiliar with watch making; he was from an Italian watch making family and he had created his first watch in 1967.

His unique watch collections consisting of watches with black rubber bands became popular and were considered quite sporty. Royalty and celebrities began to purchase the Hublot brand name within a few years of the watches being introduced and put this company into the elite group of prestigious watch makers.

The rubber bands form to the owner of the watch the first time it´s worn. This adds to the comfort and light feeling of wearing the Hublot brand name. Crocco wanted the watch to show simplicity while not necessarily following a fashion trend. The watch is actually modeled after a ship´s port hole.

In the early 1990´s other companies picked up on this innovative band and started using rubber bands on their watches. Today Hublot is still using their original technique of combining unlikely pairings of materials for their watch collections such as gold and ceramics and the use of Kevlar. The original way the rubber bands were manufactured is still being done today and it´s expected Hublot will not change their comfortable sporty band in the slightest.
