History of Glashutte Original Watch Company – Hand-Crafted Works of Art
Glashutte Original Watch Company was created when Ferdinand Lange opened a watch making teaching workshop in Glashutte, Germany in 1845. The area was so depressed at the time; Lange even received state funding for the training center so the young men of the region could learn a trade. Many of the trained watch makers remained in this town and before long a watch company brand name was born.
Even though the quality of the watch parts were as good as those of Swiss watch makers,
Glashutte Original Watch Company suffered after World War II and basically lost their identity. Glashutte, Germany had become an area now located behind the Iron Curtain. When Germany reunited in 1990 this amazing company was able to re-establish and promote itself.
One of this brand name´s popular watch collections is the Julius Assmann I that they created to celebrate 150 years of incredible watch making. These watches have a perpetual calendar and a flying tourbillion. In addition, they can be worn as a wristwatch or as a pocket watch.
This brand name of watches is known as being quite expensive to purchase, but the owner is receiving more than a watch; they will be the owner of a piece of art. In addition, Glashutte watch collections are known to perform perfectly for many years to come. All of their watches are still hand crafted in their own factory which is made up of modern technology mixed with the old ways of watch making.
