History of Girard-Perregaux - Made on Patents & Innovative Ideas
Constant Girard, a watchmaker, founded Girard & Cie Firm in 1852. He later married Miss Perregaux which created Girard-Perregaux Manufacture in 1856. In 1906 their son took over the company and also took over a watch making manufacturing company in Geneva, Bautte House, and merged the two companies together. Today this brand name of watches is still known to be prestigious and have innovative mechanical mechanisms.
In 1880 this brand name created a watch collection for German naval officers. Due to the production of 2,000 watches, this is known as the first commercialization of wristwatches. Girard-Perregaux has held almost 80 watch making patents over the years for their innovative ideas.
In 1965 they created the first mechanical movement at a high frequency. The balance of beats for this movement’s watch collection was 36,000 vibrations an hour, known as the Gyromatic HF. Then in 1970 Girard-Perregaux introduced the first watch equipped with quartz movement. This watch collection vibrates at 32,768 hertz, which is the standard frequency for quart watches today.
One of this brand name´s most popular watches is the watch collection Vintage 1945. This series is known for its art deco style which dates back to the 1940´s. Other well known watches from Girard-Perregaux are Laureato Evo, Girard-Perregaux 1966 and the Cat´s Eye. The popular Cat´s Eye series is made for women.
